OBDFix Terms of Use

The services provided by this OBDFix Site are controlled by this Terms of Use Document and our Signup Document (hereinafter collectively referred to as "Membership Documents"). If you do not agree with the terms and conditions of the Membership Documents, do not use any of the services provided by this OBDFix site. In the event that you use any of the services provided by this OBDFix site, you are agreeing to abide by the terms and conditions of the Membership Documents. We may amend the Membership Documents without any notice at anytime. Nonetheless, you are responsible for periodically reviewing the Membership Documents and staying abreast of these changes.

Limitations On Use. OBDFix reserves the right to limit access to this Site if unreasonable use of the system is made. Members should restrict their usage of the system according to the following guidelines:

  • Technicians may research up to three DTCs per day.
  • DTC lookup must be performed using the VIN for the vehicle from which the DTC was obtained.
  • Technicians may look up/decode up to three VINs per day.
  • Technicians may look up/view up to three fixes per day.
  • Technicians may not have more than three open reports at any given time. Before being allowed to create a new report, the technician must leave feedback for at least one of the open reports.

Scoring / Grading. OBDFix employs a scoring/grading system to determine a member's status. Acceptable grades are required to ensure continued use of the Site free of charge. Acceptable grades also qualify a member for giftltool giveaways. Unacceptable grades will necessitate review by OBDFix Administrative Staff to determine if membership should be revoked. Individual scores are developed for each closed report associated with a member; an overall grade for the member is derived from the scores from all closed reports associated with a member. The OBDFix scoring/grading methodology is defined below.

Additionally, for report close type "3 - Closed with technician providing fix", an initial score of "1 0" is applied, and the score for that report is updated when OBDFix Administrative Staff have reviewed the technician-submitted fix and determined its suitability according to the requirements of 3a. – 3c. below.

  • Member Grading

    Each member is graded based on the average of the individual report scores for all reports associated with the member. This average is calculated using the formula "TOTAL REPORT SCORE I MAX SCORE POSSIBLE FOR REPORTS", as shown in the following example:

E-mail. OBDFix periodically sends e-mails to OBDFix members regarding the following information including by not limited to requests from other OBDFix members, information from OBDFix, advertisements as well as other OBDFix matters. Once you have signed up with OBDFix, you will be able to configure your account to receive less e-mail. However, if you wish to cease receiving all e-mails, you must cancel your account. Please be advised that in the event that an OBDFix member reports an e-mail sent by OBDFix as spam to any organization or entity, then OBDFix, at its sole discretion, may permanently deactivate that member's account.

OBDFix Member Originated Content. OBDFix members may submit information including but not limited to technical automotive information, photographs, or comments to the OBDFix Site. By submitting information to the OBDFix Site, you are granting OBDFix a nonexclusive, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable license to use, reproduce, modify, create derivative works, distribute and display your submitted information in any medium and by any means throughout the entire world. You also grant OBDFix the right to sublicense your submitted information without compensation to you.

OBDFix member represents and warrants that all information submitted to the OBDFix Site is original. OBDFix member also represents and warrants that he/she has the right to post the information to the OBDFix Site. OBDFix member represents and warrants that the submitted information is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that submission and use of the information does not violate conditions of the Membership Documents and will not cause damage or injury to any person or entity or thing. OBDFix member agrees to indemnify OBDFix from all claims arising from information submitted by the OBDFix member. Also, OBDFix member agrees to hold OBDFix harmless against all claims arising from use of information retrieval from the OBDFix site.

OBDFix member promises not to post unlawful objectionable material such as language that is threatening, harassing, vulgar, invasive of another's privacy, racially or ethically motivated, abusive, obscene, hateful, or defamatory.

OBDFix may monitor information submitted by OBDFix members. OBDFix reserves the right to modify, delete, or otherwise control the information submitted by the OBDFix member.

OBDFix Site. OBDFix permits OBDFix members to access information posted by OBDFix and also by other OBDFix members. Each OBDFix member may only make personal use of the OBDFix Site and the information accessed through the OBDFix Site. OBDFix members may not download the information in bulk. Rather, OBDFix members may print out information to assist them in repairing a vehicle. OBDFix members promise to destroy the printed information. OBDFix members promise not to store any information obtained through the OBDFix Site on a computer. OBDFix members also promise not to systematically download information from the OBDFix Site so as to collect information from the OBDFix Site in bulk.

Multiple Accounts. A person may only have one OBDFix account. In the event that a person has multiple accounts with OBDFix, OBDFix may terminate one or more, up to all of the person's accounts. In the event that a person's account is inoperable for any reason, please contact OBDFix via the contact information provided above to rectify the issue instead of opening multiple accounts. The creation of multiple OBDFix accounts may be a violation of California Penal Code § 502.

Advertisements. OBDFix does not endorse any products or services that you may learn of through the OBDFix site. OBDFix is not responsible for any statements or claims made by any advertisements through the OBDFix site. Moreover, OBDFix is not responsible for any statements made by other OBDFix members regarding another's product or service.

Solicitation. OBDFix members promise not to promote their own products or services or any products or services in which they have a personal or business interest.

Termination. OBDFix may terminate the OBDFix Site at any time at its sole discretion and without any notice. OBDFix members promise to hold OBDFix harmless for such termination of service.

OBDFix also reserves the right to terminate any OBDFix account at its sole discretion and for any reason. Typically, OBDFix accounts are terminated when the OBDFix member violates any of the terms and conditions in the Membership Documents or by any inappropriate use of the OBDFix site.

Intellectual Property Rights. OBDFix respects the intellectual property rights of others. Accordingly, at its discretion, OBDFix may investigate complaints of copyright infringement. If any person believes that their work has been copied in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, please provide OBDFix's copyright agent the following information:

  1. A physical and electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed;
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site;
  3. Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled, and information reasonably sufficient to permit OBDFix to locate the material;
  4. Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to contact the complaining party, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, and electronic mail address at which the complaining party may be contacted;
  5. A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agents, or the law; and
  6. A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

Use of Trademarks. Neither party may use the name, tradename, trademark, domain name or other designation of the party in connection with any products, promotion or advertising without the prior written permission of the other party.

Acceptable Professions Suitable for Membership. OBDFix Site may only be used by automotive professionals including only shop owners, automotive technicians, automotive educators, and providers of automotive information. If you do not belong to anyone of these categories, you are prohibited from using the OBDFix site. If we have not listed a category of automotive professionals that would advance the objectives of OBDFix, contact us via the contact information provided above. We will consider adding such category for membership purposes.

Manufacturer's Instructions. OBDFix recommends that any manufacturer instructions and warnings be followed. In the event that any information posted on OBDFix Site is in conflict with the manufacturer's instructions, OBDFix recommends that OBDFix members follow the manufacturer's instructions instead of the information posted on the OBDFix Site.

DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES. THE OBDFIX SITE IS INTENDED TO PROVIDE A BASIC OVERVIEW OF THE PROBABLE CAUSES AND POSSIBLE FIXES FOR MALFUNCTIONS RELATED TO ELECTRONIC- AND EMISSIONS-RELATED SYSTEMS IN A VEHICLE. OBDFix Privacy Policy. OBDFix considers the protection of your private personal information to be of the utmost importance:

  • We do not sell, rent or otherwise distribute your personal information to third parties.
  • We do not share your personal information with advertisers or other sponsors of the Site.
  • We have ZERO TOLERANCE for unsolicited commercial email (a.k.a. "SPAM"). For information pertaining to email sent by the OBDFix Site as a result of Membership with or use of the Site, please see Terms and Conditions.
  • The Site maintains a "public" Member Directory containing the personal name, company name, position and general geographic location (city, state, country, ZIP or Postal Code) of all registered members. This information is accessible I viewable only by other registered members, or members of the OBDFix Support Staff. Some or all of this information may also be displayed in other areas of the Site, including areas showing who is "online" on our network at a given time, and in any Interactive Content created I posted by said member.
  • Any Interactive Content posted to or sent through the network is not considered private and is not covered by this Privacy Policy.
  • You may cancel your membership at any time if you do not wish your information to be listed in our public Member Directory.

This document defines the policies, practices and procedures employed to keep your information private. By accessing OBDFix, you accept and agree to the policies, practices and procedures defined by this Privacy Policy.

Terms Of Use – Personal Information. Your privacy is IMPORTANT to us! This Site employs policies and practices to ensure your personal information remains secure, and is used only for those purposes authorized by your Membership.

Any and all information collected at this Site is kept confidential, and will not be sold, reused, rented, loaned, or otherwise disclosed or distributed to any outside "third-party." Any and all information provided by you will be held with the care, and will not be used for any purpose or in any manner to which you have not consented through acceptance of the Terms and Conditions of Membership associated with this Site.

Web Server Security Practices. All information collected by the OBDFix Web server is "firewall-protected", which prevents outside visitors to the Site from collecting any information about you. Internally, the collected information is redirected and stored in a secure and isolated server that is only accessible by authorized personnel.

Collection and Use of Personal Information. Certain areas of the OBDFix Site request and collect personal identifiable information, such as your e-mail address, name, home or work address or telephone number, etc. The information provided through these areas will only be used to provide you with any and all information requested through the Site, and will NOT be sold, reused, rented, loaned, or otherwise disclosed or distributed without your authorization.

All personal identifiable information and related information provided by you through the Site will only be used as authorized by you. This Information will NOT be shared with third parties for commercial purposes. The consented information provided by you can and may be used for the following purposes:

  • To support customer questions regarding any of the Information available through this Site
  • To improve the content and service of the Site
  • To alert you of new products, special offers and other information related to vehicle diagnostic tools
  • To service our accounts
